Since leaving Reading, Adkins has had spells at Sheffield United, Hull City and most recently, Charlton Athletic, although he only lasted 26 games with the Addicks and was sacked last month with the club in the League One relegation zone. His time with Reading ended in December 2014, with the club ten points behind the play-off positions, having finished seventh in the Championship in the 2013/14 campaign in what was his only full season in charge.
